The Ragbox
The first volume of The Ragbox, a trade paperback graphic novel, is available online and in select stores. Written and created by Dave Kender, the book is the first installment introducing the racial kaleidoscope neighborhood of the Ragbox district. Each chapter is illustrated by a different artist. Go to theragbox.com for previews and purchase.
Mark Hamilton, Braden D. Lamb, and Matthew Reinke illustrate the three chapters, respectively. Hamilton is a long-time friend and artistic partner with Kender, and also created the dramatic cover illustration. Lamb, another member of the Boston Comics Roundtable, has been featured in the Inbound comics anthology as well as his web comic, Kitty Hawk (www.kittyhawkcomic.com). Matthew Reinke is a graduate of UMass Dartmouth and freelance illustrator.
The Ragbox, Volume 1 incorporates the first three chapters of the narrative, in which the primary characters – the siblings Roberto and Ana Estevez – are introduced. When their parents are killed in a car accident, the pair is forced into sudden and unwanted independence. The story proceeds from there, as Roberto and Ana choose to embrace or flee from their neighborhood and culture.
The Ragbox is only available for purchase through its official website and will be delivered separately if purchased.
