    BOSTON POWERS # 6!!

    Kurt Ankeny’s masterful cover features The Blue Lobster and current nemesis, the Bookworm.

    The sixth issue of Boston Powers – BCR’s collection of superhero comics for kids, set in and around Boston – is now available! The new issue features 4 all-new stories, colorful, funny and fun, and more-than-appropriate for ages 8 and up. Kids from Massachusetts might even recognize their own hometown or neighborhood in any of these locally-set adventures.

    The new issue features the return of several Boston-based heroes from previous issues:

    –– Earthboy, the environmental kid-hero guided by the spirit of Henry Thoreau takes off from the Boston Aquarium to face a fiendish fisherman, The Boston Angler. Written by Scott Harris-King, drawn by Reggie Themistocle.

    — The Conductor‘s heroic exploits again revolve around the “T,” this time she meets a new villain, the Forgemaster. Jason Doring, writer, with art by Ben Humeniuk.

    — The Blue Lobster claws his way back to the pages of Boston Powers, this time entering the BPL to take on the ravenous Bookworm. By Dan Mazur.

    — Plus a new character, The South End Avenger, premieres in a tasty adventure from the team of Deb Lang and Robert Christie.

    — And once again a spectacular cover by Kurt Ankeny.

    All stories are by Boston creators (with a few special guest out-of-town collaborators).

    Boston Powers 4 to debut at MiniMICE

    On August 28, the BCR will be exhibiting at “MiniMICE,” the outdoor version of MICE to be held at Starlight Square in Central Square Cambridge. Among the offerings will be all the recent BCR anthologies — including the new issue of BOSTON POWERS, number 4. This will be the public premiere of issue #4, and, thanks to our beloved pandemic, the comics show debut of the first three issues as well.

    The first of three “Year 2” issues, Boston Powers 4 features another great cover by Kurt Ankeny, as well as 4 new stories featuring characters introduced in the first 3 issues:

    “Sharkbus Shenanigans,” written by father-daughter writing team “The Minks,” with art by Mark Borok, offers the return of Worm Man and other characters from issue #1’s “The Superhero Battle of Prospect Hill.”

    In “Revere Beach Clean Up” by Cassidy Sulaiman & Kit Whitecar, the superhero-vampire team-up, Sunbeam and Echo Wing, have a day at the beach where they encounter a sea serpent.

    Juan R. Williams gives us the 2nd chapter of his Dream Dialusion series, “Savage Shadow in the Strand,” another exploration of fantasy & creativity played out in a superhero format (set in the Strand Theatre, Dorchester)

    Boston artist Ashley introduced her superhero universe in short features in Boston Powers 2 & 3, and contributes her first full story, “Superhero Friends Forever: Metro Con” a rollicking adventure set in a fictional Boston comic on.

    All four issues of BOSTON POWERS will be available at MiniMICE, with a cover price of $6 each, and special package deals for the show as well. The comic will soon be available at local comics shops and online, but for now you can get yours at Mini MICE (or through the Boston Powers Year 2 Kickstarter).

    Boston Powers #3, now available

    The third issue of Boston Powers, the Boston Comics’ Roundtable’s series of Boston-based superhero comics for kids will be available on December 20th, and can be pre-ordered now. Featuring all-original characters created by local writers and artists, issue # 3 presents 5 more fun and fanciful, all-ages stories set in and around Boston.

    The entries in issue number 3 are:

    “The Coming of Earth Boy,” an environmentally-themed comic set at Walden Pond, written by Scott Harris-King and drawn by Reggie Themistocle.

    “The Conductor,” a tale of a young heroine’s magical power of the Green Line to ease her teacher-mom’s commute, written by Jason Doring and drawn by Fell Hound.

    Boston Powers sells for $6 per issue. Each issue contains 4-5 6-8 page stories in full color. The stories are all “stand alone,” so you can start with any issue. It can be purchased online directly from the BCR at http://bostoncomics.com/boston-powers-3-now-available/ , or via Storenvy at https://www.storenvy.com/stores/664885-boston-comics-roundtable, as well as through local comics shops like the Million Year Picnic in Harvard Square .

    The initial run of the series was funded via Kickstarted in May 2020, and a second Kickstarter is campaigned for further issues in 2021.

    Boston Powers #1: Now available

    A young superheroine and a vampire fight it out in a swamp near Salem; a boy discovers his own hidden powers while facing down his demons at the Roger Clap Elementary school in Dorchester; a group of superkids has to deal with delays on the T while hurrying to battle a pink slime monster at the Prudential.  These are just a few of the locally-based superhero sagas in the first issue of “Boston Powers,” a new, all-ages comic book series from the Boston Comics Roundtable. 

    For it’s initial release, Boston Powers # 1 will be available exclusively through Million Year Picnic, Cambridge’s historic comic book shop. BUY IT NOW!

    The five stories in “Boston Powers” #1 were created by local writers and artists, all belonging to the BCR, an organization of comics makers that has been meeting regularly, holding events and publishing anthologies since 2006.  This is the group’s first series designed specifically for kids.  Three issues are planned for this year, each featuring all-new, original super-characters, taking on monsters, supervillains and evil corporations in recognizable locations.

    “We wanted to emphasize the silly, colorful, imaginative excitement of the superhero genre, the reasons we all fell in love with it as young comics readers” says Dan Mazur, who edited the collection. “And by inventing superheroes whose turf is in and around Boston, we hope to have made something even more fun for local kids.”

    While the comic book promotes positive values and diversity, “Boston Powers” first goal is to entertain its readers and show them their own towns and neighborhoods as locations for adventure and fantasy.  

    “Boston Powers” was funded in part via a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year. The first issue of Boston Powers was to have debuted at the Boston Kids Comics Fest on April 27th, an event that was postponed due to the current health crisis. The comic book will instead be available for order online from BCR at www.bostoncomics.com, as well as through local comic book shops who are doing delivery and mail-order business at present.  Retail price is $6.00 for the 40 page, full-color comic.
