Up Down Clown
Ninth Art Press is publishing “Up Down Clown,” a graphic novel by Whit Taylor.Taylor is one of the most distinctive voices in independent comics today, and her association with Cambridge-based Ninth Art Press includes editing the recent SubCultures anthology.
It’s not always easy finding love and success when you’re a professional birthday clown, but Gabe Scallop’s life looks like it’s finally coming together: he’s met a woman who could be “the one,” his rock band has its first gig, and he’s pursuing his dream of starting his own circus. But Gabe struggles with bipolar disorder, which makes his life a perpetual series of peaks and valleys, wreaking havoc on his personal life and career. “Up Down Clown” is a sad, sweet and funny story of love, loss and redemption.
Taylor’s other comics include “Madtown High,” “Stethoscope Microphone,” and “The Anthropologists,” published by Sparkplug Comics. She contributed a story to Ninth Art Press’ “The Greatest of All Time Comics Anthology.” Taylor is currently serializing her comic “Passing,” at Darling Sleeper.
