  • MICE 2012 is this weekend!

    In case you’ve been living under some rock that doesn’t broadcast news about the underground comics scene (I know, what are the odds, right?), MICE 2012 is this weekend, September 29th. What is MICE, you ask? Why it’s the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo, a huge event celebrating comics and the people that make them. MICE is a co-production of the Boston Comics Roundtable and the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.

    Want to learn more about MICE from a trusted source. Then may we point you towards this huge article that the Boston Globe published all about MICE and the BCR.

    Come to the show to meet nearly a hundred independent local comics creators, special guest stars Robert Sikoryak and Box Brown, and more.

  • 2012 Comics Show Uber-Calendar

    We’d like to give a big thanks to BCR member Franklin Einspruch for putting this incredibly useful calendar. It compiles nearly all the notable comic book shows for 2012. Most are in the U.S., but a few international shows also get a mention.

  • BCR Presents: Projector Night!

    Join us tonight for our weekly BCR meeting at 7:30pm in the Nelson Mandela Room of the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square. Tonight,  BCR Presents: Projector Night! It will be an early festival of lights as pixels dance across a movie screen in accordance with new work by Hyun Supul and other BCR members.

    If you can’t make it tonight and will perish of holiday independent comics deprivation if you can’t get your hands on one of our minis soon, rejoice!  The Boston Comics Roundtable will be at the CCAE Holly Fair this Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11, in Harvard Square!  Come by and see us!

    Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a holiday season filled with peace, love, and comics! 

    Join us an hour early tonight for Writer’s Night at 6:30pm at the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square. If you’d like to review the scripts beforehand, you can download them here. 

    And at 7:30pm, we’ll have the usual meeting in the usual place: the Nelson Mandela Room, the big room at the Democracy Center. 

    Not sure what to get for your favorite third cousin once removed or the office Secret Santa this year? Nothing celebrates the winter holidays like independently published mini comics and original comic art.  Give the perfect gift of handmade images drawn in narrative sequence!  You can find them in cornucopiac abundance this weekend.  This Saturday, December 3, BCR member E. J. Barnes will be at the Somerville Local Artists Market, and now through January 8, 2012, she has several pieces in the annual Small Works Show at Riverside Gallery.  On Sunday, December 4,  BCR will be in two places at once at Comicazi Con/Bad-Ass Bazaar and the Boston Bazaar Bizarre.  Come by and see us! 

    As for recent comics news online, Comics Alliance published this nice post of BCR member Shelli Paroline’s work to highlight her and BCR member Braden Lamb’s selection as the artists for the upcoming Adventure Time comic to be published by Boom Studios’ Kaboom! imprint.  Go, Shelli and Braden!!!

  • Happy Thanksgiving!

    No BCR meeting tonight due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  See you next week at 6:30pm for Writer’s Night and 7:30pm for the weekly meeting.
