  • Outbound #2 Sci-Fi Anthology, available for pre-order now!

    The Boston Comics Roundtable, in partnership with River Bird Studios, is pleased to announce the release of the second issue of Outbound, a Science Fiction anthology. Outbound is a spin-off of sister publication Inbound, the anthology of comics from Boston. Outbound contains comics and short stories from a mix of Boston-based creators and artists all over the world, from Australia to South America, including a new cover from talented Uruguayan artist Marcello Buchelli.

    Outbound #2 retails for US$ 9.99 and will be available in every comic book retail location in the greater Boston area and is currently available for pre-order online at http://OutboundMagazine.blogspot.com/ (payment at website via Paypal). This issue introduces the new, perfect-bound, bookshelf-friendly format for Outbound.  After such a great reception to the first issue, the Outbound team decided to up the ante, increasing the page count to 120 pages!

    A complete galley preview of Outbound #2 will be available at MoCCA and Boston Comic-Con this coming weekend (April 10-11, 2010).  The book will officially be released at the end of April.  Interested press and retailers may contact Outbound staff to receive a PDF edition for pre-publication review.

  • MoCCA! Boston Comic Con! Outbound!

    It’s a weekend of East Coast conventions!

    This Saturday and Sunday, look for Boston Comics Roundtable at NYC’s indy comics celebration MoCCA Art Fest and Boston’s own fast-growing comic show Boston Comic Con!

    Stop by our tables and you’ll find copies of our anthology Inbound, minicomics and graphic novels by our members, and sneak-previewing this weekend, the latest issue of our sci-fi serial anthology, Outbound! Check out new chapters of your favorite stories, prose and previews, and a haunting cover by artist Marcelo Buchelli.   • 3/25 meeting canceled. Instead, come have fun with the Punch Buggy Tour

    We’re canceling this week’s meetings (Thursday, March 25th).

    In its place, we heartily endorsing an event scheduled for the same night at Hub Comics in Union Square, Somerville.

    Comics artists Ken Dahl, Liz Baillie, M.K. Reed and special guest Sally Bloodbath will read from their works, play a little music, and sign their books.

  • Studio class: Art of the Comic Book

    If you’re looking to learn how to make comics, Roundtable member and comics writer/illustrator Dave Marshall has a hands-on class for you: The Art of the Comic Book, an 8-week course offered through Mass. College of Art and Design’s Continuing Education program (class starts March 16 – register now!).

    Art of the Comic Book is a studio workshop for making comics with traditional ink-on-paper media. Focus includes storytelling, character design, working with scripts, lettering, inking, figure drawing, sketchbook practice, and group critiques. Study the comic book industry’s current production methods, business environment, and history.

  • Call for submissions: Hellbound

    Cringe in terror of Hellbound, a new Boston Comics Roundtable horror anthology!

    The Hellbound team is seeking New England comics creators to create single-page horror stories based on true or legendary New England murders, urban legends, and creepy tales. The anthology will span 24 total stories/pages.

    15-25 special screenprinted handbound editions of the anthology with a glow-in-the-dark cover will be produced in fall 2010; profits will go towards funding the first full print run.

    Submission deadline: April 1, 2010 (participants to be notified on May 1)

    Guidelines: Artwork colors limited to black and red (no grays please). The anthology will be printed at tabloid/Wednesday Comics size of 14″x20″ (but may be reduced in size for future print runs). Please submit finished stories as Photoshop PSD documents with colors separated in layers (e.g. black on one, red on another) and with all text flattened.
