  • Artists VS The World (Or Does the World Need Me?)

    Those who still watch the Simpsons complain that the recent seasons have lost the bite of the yesteryears. Still, one of my favorite not-so-old episodes involved Lisa getting inspired by a pair of artists (played by the Flight of the Conchords).  When Lisa runs away and reunites with her inspirations to become an artist, she gets disillusioned by the abject (or comically abject) poverty they live in.

  • BCR Presents: Projector Night!

    Join us tonight for our weekly BCR meeting at 7:30pm in the Nelson Mandela Room of the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square. Tonight,  BCR Presents: Projector Night! It will be an early festival of lights as pixels dance across a movie screen in accordance with new work by Hyun Supul and other BCR members.

    If you can’t make it tonight and will perish of holiday independent comics deprivation if you can’t get your hands on one of our minis soon, rejoice!  The Boston Comics Roundtable will be at the CCAE Holly Fair this Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11, in Harvard Square!  Come by and see us!

  • Writer’s Night and BCR Presents: Projector Night!

    How would the first page of the best graphic novel of all time read? Join us an hour early tonight for Writer’s Night at 6:30pm at the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square to find out! If you’d like to review the scripts beforehand, you can download them here. We’ll be discussing all the scripts under the heading, “Best First Page.”

    And at 7:30pm, we’ll have the usual meeting in the usual place: the Nelson Mandela Room, the big room at the Democracy Center. Tonight BCR Presents: Projector Night! Come see BCR’s Hyun Supul‘s laptop projector project recent projects! Your retinae too, dear reader, can be pummeled by light bounced off a silver screen so that shapes forged in the crucibles of local cartoonists’ imaginations may be rendered unto your own.   • BCR Presents: Fight Choreography for Comics and Animation!

    Join us tonight at 7:30pm at the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square for our weekly meeting in the Nelson Mandela Room.

    Tonight, we’re excited to start an instructional series of brief talks on making comics!  BCR Founder Dave Kender writes:

    The BCR’s own Hyun Supul will kick off our presentation series with a demonstration of fight choreography for comics and animation. We’ll have fake swords, but real advice. Join us.

    And here is Hyun’s description of what he will be demonstrating tonight:

    A presentation about the basics of fight choreography for those who would like to have an introduction to the concept of staged fights (and apply the concepts for comics creation). Will not teach you how to be a Ninja or Zorro in 15 mins, but will cover both unarmed and armed staged combat.
