  • Join BCR tonight!

    Did you come to MICE 2011 and don’t want the party to stop?  Come join us at 7:30pm, tonight or any  Thursday of the year, in the Nelson Mandela room of the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square.  It’s like MICE all year long! 

    If you’d like to get involved in a project right away, you can help plan for the upcoming Hellbound Party on Friday, October 28th at Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square.   Come by an hour early tonight at 6:30pm to speak to Roho and sign up!

    For all the intellectuals in the house, take a gander at the International Comic Arts Forum 2011 Conference Schedule, taking place now through Sunday, October 2nd at the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, VT.  While you’re there, camp out with cartoonists also on Saturday, October 1st, at City Hall in Montpelier, VT for its 24-hour Comic Challenge hosted by our friends, the Trees & Hills Comics Group.  Sleep?  Who needs sleep when you have comics!

    And if you prefer something more local, this coming weekend is the BCR signing at Harrison’s Comics on Saturday, October 1st.  Come meet us there and get into the Halloween spirit in Salem, MA!

  • Celebrate Minimum Page comics anthology tonight!

    Tonight the Harvard Book Store will celebrate the release of its first-ever comics anthology, Minimum Paige. We’re also pretty sure this is the first comics anthology printed by an in-store robot, a print-on-demand machine named “Paige M. Gutenborg.” Yes, the future has well and truly arrived.

    The event is open to all. If you’re a Boston Comics Roundtable member, you’re especially welcome, as we had a hand in helping to produce Minimum Paige. The normal BCR meeting will still be held in its normal time and place for those interested, but if you’re so inclined, you can come to the party instead.

    Thursday, September 22nd, 7 pm, Harvard Book Store

    Harvard Book Store and the Boston Comics Round Table are excited to celebrate the release of Harvard Book Store’s first comics anthology, Minimum Paige, printed on Paige M. Gutenborg, our in-house book machine. The evening will include improvisational cartoons by local artists, a raffle to benefit a neighborhood comics-related charity, a chance to meet some of our contributors, as well as wine and light refreshments.

    Minimum Paige showcases the talent of local artists including Ignatz Award-winner Liz Prince (“Will You Still Love Me If I Wet The Bed?”), DC Comics artist Joe Quinones (“Wednesday Comics”), Boston Comics Roundtable editors Dave Kender and Dan Mazur, and many more.Minimum Paige will also feature profiles of the Cambridge area’s most talented graphic novel creators.

    The anthology also features work by winners of Harvard Book Store’s first-ever comics contest, which ran for six weeks during the summer.

  • Meeting Tonight & Hellbound Papermaking!

    In other news, BCR members have been making paper at the Boston Paper Collective for the upcoming art edition of Hellbound II, published by Roho of Riverbird Studios and edited by Jesse Lonergan. Check out all the papermaking mayhem at the Hellbound blog!

  • Weekly Meeting Tomorrow, SPX, Best Wishes to Schulz Library

    Join us tomorrow night at 7:30pm at the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square for our weekly meeting in the Nelson Mandela Room.

    In other news, several BCR members will be at SPX in Bethesda, MD this weekend.  Good luck, guys!

    Our hearts also go out to the folks at the Center for Cartoon Studies Schulz Graphic Novel Library in White River Junction, VT.  They were flooded by Hurricane Irene, and the community has pulled together to save the books (headed by BCR friends/Schulz Librarians Jen Vaughn and Caitlin McGurk and including BCR members Laurel Leake and Jesse Lonergan).  Read on below, and if you’d like to help, you can make a donation to the Center for Cartoon Studies.

  • Writer’s Night: Best First Page Ever!, MICE Postering, & Boston Pulp!

    Join us an hour early tonight at 6:30pm at the Democracy Center (map) in Harvard Square for a special edition of Writer’s Night: Best First Page Ever!  This month’s challenge is to write an original script for the first page of the best graphic novel/comic of all time.  More information here and scripts here!

     At 7:30pm, we’ll have the usual meeting in an unusual place: the Nelson Mandela Room, the big room at the Democracy Center.  We’ll meet there from now on.  A bigger space for a bigger BCR.  Can you handle it?  Come find out!

    We’ll be taking names and handing out posters and postcards to canvas the Greater Boston area for our upcoming Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE).  Just wait till you see the boggle-worthy graphic art of Jerel Dye, Maris Wicks, and Shelli Paroline, dear reader, and you too will feel the sudden need to plaster them everywhere!

    And local artists desperately in search of a local writer, take note.  Come hear BCR writer Troy Minkowsky pitch his project idea, Boston Pulp!  What’s it all about?  Four words for you: Sunday. Funnies. Intertwining. Storylines.  DON’T come if you DON’T want to be intrigued!
