SUMMER KIDS COMICS WORKSHOP

This course introduces the components of the modern Graphic Novel. It explores storytelling, techniques and formats: Manga, Comics, Newspaper Strips and Graphic Novels. Students will learn the basics of crafting a story as well as a variety of materials and techniques involved in creating sequential art in the studio. At the end of this class students would have created their own book.

Teachers: Roho and John Carvajal.

Age group: 8 to 12
Time: 7/16 -/ 7/23 – 7/30 and 8/6 9:30 to 11

The Rise and Fall of the Stamp Act

Comic fans are invited to a hands-on workshop to learn about the history of the Stamp Act and how to make a historical comic. Participation is free, supplies will be provided and participants will receive a FREE copy of The Rise and Fall of the Stamp Act comic. This comic was written by J. L. Bell with art by Jesse Lonergan, Ben Doane, John Carvajal and L. J. Baptiste with an amazing full color cover by Jerel Dye. The book and poster were designed by Roho‘s River Bird Comics. All the creators involved are members of the Boston Comics Roundtable.

Workshop is open to all ages, but targeted to grades 5 through 8.

Come learn about the wide range of independent comics being produced in Cambridge and the Boston area. From action, adventure, and humor, to graphic novels dealing with personal and political themes, comics today are going places they’ve never gone before. Since 2006, the Boston Comics Roundtable has been at the center of the local comics scene, providing a venue for creators to meet, collaborate, publish, and grow as artists. At CCCAF, members of the BCR will exhibit and sell their books and offer demonstrations and hands-on workshops for aspiring cartoonists of all ages and skill levels. High school art students from the area will also be on hand to share their comics creations with the public. Come join us!
